PADI Wreck Diver Course

The diving club "Daivings.lv" offers to take the "PADI Wreck Diver" course to dive on wrecks sunk in the waters of Latvia. We also recommend completing “PADI Dry Suit Diver” course to view sunken ships in comfortable conditions.

This course is for divers who want to learn wreck diving. Wreck diving is a special type of diving that has its own unique safety requirements and skills.

During the course, you will learn all the necessary knowledge and skills to dive wrecks safely and confidently. You will learn about the history, safety, planning, equipment and technique of wreck diving.

The PADI Wreck Diver course consists of two parts

  • Theory part
  • Practical part

Theory part

The theory part is learned remotely using the PADI training platform. In this part you will learn the following topics:

  • The history of wreck diving
  • Wreck diving safety
  • Wreck diving planning
  • Wreck diving equipment
  • Wreck diving technique

Practical part of the PADI Wreck Diver course

The practical part is learned in a diving pool and in open water. In this part you will practice all the skills learned in the theory course.

In the pool you will learn the following skills:

  • Wreck diving planning
  • Use of wreck diving equipment
  • Buoyancy control in wreck diving

In open water you will learn the following skills:

  • Wreck diving in different water conditions
  • Wreck diving using different diving techniques

At the end of the course you will take an exam consisting of a theory and a practical part. If you pass the exam, you will receive a PADI Wreck Diver certificate.

The course is suitable for anyone who wants to learn wreck diving. The course has an age limit - the minimum age is 12 years.

The course takes place in Riga, at the diving center "Daivings.lv".

The duration of the course is 2-3 days.

The course fee is ~300 EUR.

Course requirements:

  • The minimum age is 12 years.
  • Must have Open Water Diver certification or equivalent.

  • Diving equipment that meets Open Water Diver standards.
  • Wreck diving equipment including:
    • Underwater diving suit
    • Neoprene diving cap
    • Diving oxygen cylinder
    • Diving reserve oxygen regulator
    • Diving diving flow regulator
    • Underwater lighting, diving lamp

Ships, planes and even cars sunk in the underwater environment are exciting to explore, apply for Wreck Diver training in Latvia. For each Wreck Diver, it is possible for an underwater wreck diver to view new sunken objects and be in front of new discoveries.

How is diving on sunken wrecks in Latvia?

Diving on sunken wrecks is a popular form of diving in Latvia, which provides an opportunity to explore the evidence of underwater history. There are several sunken ships in Latvia, located in different water depths and conditions.

To dive on sunken wrecks in Latvia, you need a PADI Wreck Diver certificate. This certificate certifies that you have the necessary knowledge and skills to safely dive on wrecks.

Diving to wrecks in Latvia is usually organized by diving centers. The diving center will provide you with the necessary equipment and an instructor who will help you plan and execute the dive.

PADI Wreck Diver Certification: Wreck Diver

The course includes diving on a sunken shipwreck. Course Wreck Diver the program consists of theoretical and practical lessons. Emphasis is placed on underwater navigation, as well as on safe entry, diving into sunken ships and take-off in compliance with the necessary safety stop, which lasts 3 minutes, at a depth of 5 meters!

  • Required Open Water Diver certificate
  • Safety considerations in underwater navigation and wreck research.
  • Wreck research, surveying and mapping.
  • Use of guidelines and coils to measure and enter a sunken wreck.
  • Learn how to avoid mud and sludge lifting.

From April to October, the Baltic Sea has excellent weather conditions for wreck diving, diving on sunken ships takes place throughout the summer season. Historically, not one but ten ships have found their demise on the coast of Latvia, in the territorial waters of the Baltic Sea. Underwater diving club "Daivings.lv" invites all interested parties to join the diving on ships sunk in the Baltic Sea this season.
