This course is the first step in learning closed-circuit breathing apparatus (CCR) in the world, using one of the world's most reliable and popular devices - JJ-CCRThe course is designed for experienced divers who want to extend their underwater time, reduce gas consumption and enjoy complete silence underwater (no bubbles).
During the training, you will learn rebreather construction, pre-dive preparation, planning, and critical skills management in emergency situations.
What will you learn?
- Theory: JJ-CCR physics, physiology, oxygen partial pressure ($PO_2$) control and gas management.
- Practical skills: Apparatus assembly, checks (pre-dive tests), buoyancy control and horizontal trim with CCR.
- Emergency situations: Action in case of system errors, transition to open loop (Bailout) and saving a partner.
Requirements for applicants
- At least Advanced Open Water Diver (or equivalent) certificate.
- Nitrox and Deep Diver (or Extended Range/Technical) certificates.
- At least 50 logged diving hours.
- Minimum age: 18 years.

Qualification to be obtained: The certificate allows you to perform decompression diving up to 40 meters depth using air as diluent and Nitrox/Oxygen for decompression.
Detailed cost breakdown for the JJ-CCR rebreather MOD 1 course.
Course fee (Instructor work and certification)
- Approximately: €900 – €1,300
- What's included: Theoretical lessons, pool/shallow water sessions, at least 6 open water dives, training materials and agency registration (certificate card).
Mandatory consumables and gases (Course Consumables)
Rebreather diving requires specific materials that the student must have:
- Softlime (Sofi / CO2 absorbent): around €50 – €80 (the course will require approximately one tank/introduction volume).
- Gas filling: around €50 – €100 (oxygen and diluent for course dives).
- Bailout cylinder rental and filling: around €40 – €70 (the course requires at least one side balloon for emergencies).
Equipment rental (if you don't have your own equipment yet)
- Approximately: €200 – €400
- Note: Most instructors provide JJ-CCR unit rental for the duration of the course. However, if you plan to seriously engage in CCR diving, it is best to take the course right away with your own personal device so that the instructor can help you fine-tune it just for you.
Additional costs
- Entrance fees to diving sites: If you use private quarries or bases (for example, Rummu quarry in Estonia or Sloka quarry), you must expect entrance fees (around €10 – €20 per day).
- Travel and living expenses: If the course takes place outside your place of residence or abroad.
💡 Tip: Before applying for a course, always ask the instructor: “Does the listed price include absorbent, gases, bailout cylinder rental, and quarry entrance fees?” – this will protect you from unexpected surprises on the final bill.
