Underwater cultural and historical landscapes, current policies and approaches to effective management

We invite you to participate in the seminar "Underwater Cultural and Historical Landscapes: Current Policies and Approaches to Effective Management".

On March 27, 2026, the National Cultural Heritage Board will present the project at the Jurmala Museum. UCL-Baltic A seminar is being organized to introduce the concept of underwater cultural and historical landscapes, as well as to discuss their management. All representatives of organizations related to the marine space and individual users of the marine space are invited to the seminar.

The first part of the seminar will feature expert presentations introducing the theoretical and management principles of the underwater environment and cultural heritage, while the second part will feature a discussion led by project participants, where all attendees will have the opportunity to share their opinions on both the seminar topic and the preparation of the underwater cultural and historical landscape assessment form. See the program in the appendix.

The aim of the seminar is to test the project's results so far and identify which aspects of society and the public sector need to be taken into account in the future course of the project.

UCL-Baltic is Interreg Central Baltic Programmes in the project  The Estonian and Latvian National Cultural Heritage Boards, as well as the Department of Culture of the Åland Islands Government, are collaborating. The project is developing guidelines for the identification, research and management of underwater cultural and historical landscapes. The project does not develop protected areas or other regulatory acts.
