When Kaido Hagen went to dive at a shipwreck at sea off the coast of Estonia, he was greatly surprised to find the lost Olympus µ [mju:] 720 SW on the seabed. The shock- and water-resistant camera got there about a year ago when its owner dived into the same wreck. After a detective-worthy investigation, the camera was returned to its lucky owner, Thomas Erland. Another pleasant surprise awaited Mr. Erland - despite the new shell cover that adorned the camera body, the diving shots taken last summer had remained on the xD memory card.
You won't think when you think
On June 28, 2009, diving around the wreck of the Rasma ship near Mohni Island, Kaido Hagen had no idea what was waiting for him. As an active photographer himself, Kaido noticed the µ 720 SW that sank on the seabed. By posting on the forums of local divers and using the pictures found on the camera's memory card, we managed to find Thomas Erland, the owner of the camera.
Underwater adventure
It turned out that on August 10, 2008, Mr. Erland borrowed a camera from his daughter before going to a popular diving site. On that day, while diving, the camera mounting cord broke and he didn't even notice when the camera disappeared. Unfortunately, oxygen supplies were limited, which limited search time. Water and shock resistant µ [mju:] 720 SW has all this time withstood sea creatures, tides, water temperature and weather.
When life becomes unbearable, the resilient endure
"After the camera dried, I was very happy to see all the photos on the memory card. It looked like all the µ [mju:] 720 SW keys were working, all you needed was a new battery and a little cosmetic treatment, ”said Kaido Hagen, the camera's finder.
"I think this case quite eloquently describes our durable m [mju:] TOUGH cameras. They are able to cope with all the challenges of the weather and extreme users. These cameras are designed to fall, rise again and move on, ”said Jānis Kārkliņš, Regional Manager for Olympus Latvia.
