On the beach, about 5 kilometers from Jūrmalciems in the direction of Pape, after a big storm, a fragment of an old shipwreck was found. Sailboat parts are fastened with wooden pins.
A specialist from the Liepāja Museum estimates that the ship could have been built in the 14th-17th centuries. The exact age and details will be known after the examination, which the municipality is ready to finance. The shipwreck was noticed on the beach by the local fisherman Oskars Kadeģis.
In the district of Nīca district, in the sea, there is probably a shoal with many sailboat wrecks
Gita Vanaga, the manager of the Nice Antiquities Store, explained that there was a shore in front of this place in the sea, which was once the fate of many ships. On December 28, the municipal employees carefully collected the parts and placed them in a safe place until the examination, so that the forthcoming winds would not wash them back and damage them. After the preservation of ancient details, it is planned to place a fragment of the shipwreck for inspection in one of the antiquities storages in Nīca district, most likely in Jūrmalciems.
