Underwater works with a ground pump (Water lift, dredging equipment)

Water lift (dredging machine)

SIA Dronelab is a Latvian company that offers innovative solutions for underwater works. Their technical equipment is a water lift – a unique dredging device that combines a powerful water pump and flow divider, field-proven underwater technologies and systems to ensure efficient and accurate underwater work.

Water lift:

A water lift is a steerable dredging machine capable of performing a variety of tasks underwater, including:

  • Sludge and sediment removal: A water lift can effectively remove silt and sediment from lakes, ponds, rivers and other bodies of water.
  • Destruction of algae and aquatic weeds: A water lift can be used to combat the growth of algae and aquatic weeds, which can degrade water quality and threaten the ecosystem of water bodies.
  • Ground leveling: A water lift can be used to smooth out the bottom terrain in bodies of water, making it more suitable for swimming, boating and other water sports.
  • More: The water lift can also be used for other underwater work such as inspection, damage repair and rescue.

Advantages of water lift:

  • Efficiency: A water lift can do the job faster and more efficiently than traditional dredging methods.
  • Accuracy: Drone control ensures precise work, allowing the operator to remove sediment and soil from specific areas.
  • Environmental friendliness: A water lift is a more environmentally friendly solution than traditional dredging methods, as it does not cause water turbidity and does not harm the ecosystem of water bodies.
  • Availability: A water lift is a relatively inexpensive solution compared to traditional dredging methods.

There are many underwater work types that require multiple types of submersible pumps. Ground pumps, dredges or ejectors are designed for various professional underwater excavation works. Underwater air lift, vacuum pump, or underwater dredge is widely used in underwater excavation works and also in underwater archeology works.

An air lift pump helps in underwater work

Air lift pump is designed for gentle underwater work. The principle of operation is simple - air is pumped downwards, allowing it to rise through a thicker pipe. When you get up it sucks in the mud and soil.

An air lift is one of the more suitable digging tools. The air lift pipe can be made with PVC pipe, stainless steel or aluminum pipe. With a suitable compressor, it is possible to move a large amount of sand with minimal loss of visibility, of course if air lift is designed and used correctly.

Underwater dredgers, aerial lift components are simple

  • Suitable air compressor, long pipe,
  • a long pipe for draining the land to another place or a collection basket
  • digger
  • water hoses.

The valve is usually located at the bottom of the pipe and allows the operator to control the amount of air pushed into the pipe. The air lift works because air is forced through the thickest hose to the lower end of the thick tube. The air blown into the thick pipe rises to the water, creating a vacuum effect that causes the sand, mud or small rocks to be lifted, which are sucked into the pipe.

There are two types of air tube outlets

  • the sand is discharged near the diver, under water, downstream
  • the sand is pumped into a basket that sits on top of the water to reveal small things that have been picked up by the dredger.

A more sophisticated way, effective at greater depths above 5 meters. The deeper the object, the higher the pressure on the ground.

The device consists of a 6 meter long hose, 15 cm in diameter, which is connected to the air compressor by a narrower pipe. Other pipe diameters and lengths can also be used. An example is achieved 5 bar (75 psi) and 47.2 l / s (100 CFM) of air for the unit to operate effectively at a depth of 20 meters.

If the lift is set up correctly, light ground will be sucked in, raised and deflected sideways, while heavy objects will remain on the ground. The other end of the tube is placed in the direction of the stream.

There are also portable air elevators fed by a scuba diving balloon for small search jobs.

One air pump supplies air to both the diver and the underwater dredger.
