What is the Emergency First Response (EFR) Primary and Secondary Care course?

This course is not just for divers – it is valuable for anyone who wants to learn first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills. In the course you will learn:

  • Primary Care (CPR): How to deal with life-threatening situations. This includes:
    • Situation assessment and safety measures.
    • Use of protective equipment.
    • Primary assessment of the victim's condition.
    • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for adults.
    • Stopping serious bleeding.
    • Shock management.
    • Spinal cord injury assessment and management.
    • Help in case of choking (for an adult).
  • Secondary Care (Secondary Care – First Aid): How to provide first aid for injuries and illnesses that are not directly life-threatening but require immediate action until professional medical help can be obtained. This includes:
    • Injury assessment.
    • Disease assessment.
    • Wound dressing.
    • Immobilization of bone fractures and dislocations.

Why is this course important?

  • Saving lives: The skills you learn could save someone's life - a family member, friend, colleague, or even a stranger.
  • Increased self-confidence: Knowing what to do in an emergency situation provides confidence and reduces confusion at a critical moment.
  • Requirement for diving courses: The EFR certification (or equivalent) is a mandatory requirement to begin the PADI Rescue Diver course, as well as all PADI professional-level courses (e.g. Divemaster, Instructor).
  • Useful in everyday life: Accidents can happen anywhere and at any time – at home, at work, while traveling. These skills are useful in any situation in life.
