We have performed underwater surveying and filming&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/daivings.lv\/zemudens-apsekosanas-darbi-aluksnes-arheologijas-projektam\/\">Al\u016bksne lake archeology project<\/a>, as well as others.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Underwater archeological research objects<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Underwater archeological research objects include sunken ships, ancient habitats, graveyards that have been submerged as a result of earthquakes, as well as changes in the shores of water bodies.<\/p>\n<p><strong>When Underwater Archeology emerged<\/strong><br \/>\nUnderwater archeology originated in the early twentieth century. Initially, the work was done by divers, and since the middle of the 20th century it has been performed mainly by specialists, archaeologists in simplified types of divers. In Latvia, underwater archeological research has been carried out in Lake Vilkmui\u017ea.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1297\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1297\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/daivings.lv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/vilkmui\u017eas-ezers-arheolo\u0123ija-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1297\" src=\"https:\/\/daivings.lv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/vilkmui\u017eas-ezers-arheolo\u0123ija-1-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"Vilkmui\u017ea lake archeology\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" srcset=\"https:\/\/daivings.lv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/vilkmui\u017eas-ezers-arheolo\u0123ija-1-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/daivings.lv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/vilkmui\u017eas-ezers-arheolo\u0123ija-1-1024x680.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/daivings.lv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/vilkmui\u017eas-ezers-arheolo\u0123ija-1.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1297\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Vilkmui\u017ea lake archeology<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Underwater archaeologists in Latvia<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Underwater archaeologist J\u0101nis Apals performed <a title=\"Underwater works\" href=\"https:\/\/daivings.lv\/zemudens-darbi\/\">underwater works<\/a>, began the identification of underwater archeological monuments, <a title=\"Underwater search\" href=\"https:\/\/daivings.lv\/zemudens-meklesana\/\">underwater search<\/a>&nbsp;and research and for many years was the leader of this branch of science in Latvia.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/daivings.lv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/Janis-Apals-Daivings.lv_.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1300\" src=\"https:\/\/daivings.lv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/Janis-Apals-Daivings.lv_-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"Janis-Apals-Daivings.lv\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/daivings.lv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/Janis-Apals-Daivings.lv_-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/daivings.lv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/Janis-Apals-Daivings.lv_.jpg 328w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The most visible work of his life is the research, reconstruction and creation of \u0100rai\u0161i Lake Castle into a unique cultural and historical object. In order to explore \u0100rai\u0161i Lake Castle, the level of the lake was lowered by 1 m and dams were built around the excavation sites, but the water flowing into the sites was pumped out with motor pumps. During the works it was revealed that the cultural layer of \u0100rai\u0161i lake castle was up to 2.5 m thick.
