Suddenly, it becomes harder to breathe \u2013 it seems that you have to forcefully draw in air. Or vice versa \u2013 the regulator starts to \u201cfree-flow\u201d uncontrollably, filling the mask with bubbles and rapidly emptying the cylinder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Your regulator is your life support system underwater. We change the oil in our car every certain number of kilometers, but why do so many divers forget that their diving regulator needs regular and professional maintenance?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During the natural process of use, the parameters of the regulator change. Technical justification<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The regulator reduces the high pressure from the cylinder (typically 200-300 bar) to a pressure suitable for breathing. This process occurs in two stages:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"1\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>First stage (1st stage):<\/strong> Reduces the cylinder pressure to intermediate pressure or <strong>IP (Internal Pressure \/ Intermediate Pressure)<\/strong>, which is typically about $9.5-10.5 \\text{ bar}$ above ambient pressure.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Second stage:<\/strong> Reduces the IP to ambient pressure in response to your inhalation.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During normal use \u2013 even if you only dive a few times a year \u2013 the regulator\u2019s internal springs lose their elasticity, while the o-rings and seals (seats) wear out and deform. We check the current IP and its stability (whether the pressure does not \u201cjump\u201d), and also measure <strong>Cracking point<\/strong> \u2013 the force (in millimeters of water column) required to open the second stage valve and start air supply.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"2_Solis_Pilniga_demontaza\"><\/span>Step 2: Complete disassembly<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The regulator is disassembled down to the last screw. All hoses are removed, filters, valves, membranes and all o-rings are removed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"3_Solis_Ultraskanas_tirisana_un_atsalosana\"><\/span>Step 3: Ultrasonic cleaning and desalination<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Baltic Sea salt, freshwater sediments and limescale cover metal parts. All metal parts are placed in a special ultrasonic bath with specific chemical solutions that gently but completely remove corrosion and salt crystals without damaging the chrome plating.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"4_Solis_Detalu_defektacija_un_maina\"><\/span>Step 4: Defecting and replacing parts<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">All old o-rings, high pressure seals (HP seats), second stage valve seals and conical filters are discarded. They are replaced by <strong>original manufacturer&#039;s (Apeks, Scubapro, Dive Rite, etc.) service kits<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"5_Solis_Montaza_un_ellosana\"><\/span>Step 5: Assembly and lubrication<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Assembly is carried out using the manufacturer&#039;s specified torque and only oxygen-compatible lubricants (e.g. <em>Christo-Lube<\/em>). This is critical to ensure the regulator is ready to work with enriched air (Nitrox).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"6_Solis_Preciza_kalibresana_un_dinamiskie_testi\"><\/span>Step 6: Precision calibration and dynamic tests<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is the most important stage. Here are three of the most glaring examples that homeowners could have prevented with timely maintenance:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"%E2%80%9CZalais_briesmonis%E2%80%9D_jeb_pilniga_korozija_pirmas_pakapes_ieksiene\"><\/span>The \u201cGreen Monster\u201d or complete corrosion inside the first stage<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>What we saw:<\/strong> The first stage environmental chamber was full of a green, calcified mass that completely blocked the mainspring. The customer complained that he was \u201cstarting to run out of air at depth.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Why did it happen:<\/strong> After diving in the sea, the regulator was not rinsed with fresh water, or during rinsing, water entered the first stage inlet (where the filter is located) because the dust cap was not installed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Consequences:<\/strong> Permanently damaged housing and spring.
