If in the past the main thing was thickness, today we are talking about technologies that provide warmth without sacrificing freedom of movement. The main trend is the transition from traditional, petroleum-based neoprene to more environmentally friendly and efficient materials.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Galvenie_materiali_sodien\"><\/span>Main materials today:<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Limestone neoprene:<\/strong> It has replaced petroleum products. This material is lighter, warmer and absorbs more <strong>95% less water<\/strong> than the old type of materials. In the conditions of the Baltic Sea, this means that the suit does not remain heavy after coming out of the water and dries faster.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Yamamoto #40 and #41:<\/strong> These are premium Japanese neoprene. They are distinguished by their incredible elasticity. Gatis states: <em>\u201cThe measure of a good suit is its \u2018memory\u2019 \u2013 its ability to return to its original shape after being compressed to depth. Yamamoto materials do this brilliantly, ensuring longevity.\u201d<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Yulex (natural rubber):<\/strong> An increasingly popular choice for those who care about the environment, it is derived from Hevea trees and is a great alternative for people with allergies to synthetic neoprene.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Optimalais_biezums_aksesuariem\"><\/span>Optimal thickness for accessories<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Baltic Sea<\/strong> Even in summer, it can be cold at depth ($4-8$ \u00b0C), so gloves and hats (hoods) are not just accessories, but a matter of survival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table class=\"has-fixed-layout\"><thead><tr><td><strong>Equipment<\/strong><\/td><td><strong>Recommended thickness<\/strong><\/td><td><strong>The insights of Phoca<\/strong><\/td><\/tr><\/thead><tbody><tr><td><strong>Gloves (5 fingers)<\/strong><\/td><td><strong>5mm<\/strong><\/td><td>The golden mean. Provides sufficient heat and allows you to operate a computer or lamp.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><strong>Mittens (three-fingered)<\/strong><\/td><td><strong>7 mm<\/strong><\/td><td>For extreme cold or long dives. Warmest, but less maneuverable.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><strong>Hood (hat)<\/strong><\/td><td><strong>5 \u2013 7 mm<\/strong><\/td><td>The head loses heat the fastest. We recommend it for the Baltics <strong>7 mm<\/strong> with a &#039;smooth skin&#039; finish on the inside to prevent water from circulating.<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Gatis adds:<\/strong> <em>&quot;The most important thing is not the millimeters, but the &#039;seal&#039; at the palm and face. If water leaks in there, even 10 mm of neoprene won&#039;t help.&quot;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Vadoso_tirgotaju_un_razotaju_jaunakas_atzinas\"><\/span>Latest insights from leading traders and manufacturers<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Looking at brands like <em>Scubapro<\/em>, <em>Cressi<\/em> and <em>Bare<\/em>, the trends for the 2026 season are clear:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"1\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Hybrid technologies:<\/strong> Manufacturers are starting to combine panels of different thicknesses and densities in one suit. This means that regular, soft neoprene will compress in half.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Ready conclusion:<\/strong> \u201cIf your suit is made of low-density neoprene, in 20 meters it will go from 7 mm to a 3-4 mm thin \u2018film\u2019. The thermal insulation disappears when you need it most. That\u2019s why we recommend <strong>high-density<\/strong> neoprene suits, which are more resistant to pressure.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Termokline_%E2%80%93_temperaturas_starpiba\"><\/span>Thermocline \u2013 temperature difference<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the Baltic Sea in summer, the surface temperature can be +18\u00b0C, but at a depth of 20 meters the temperature drops rapidly to <strong>+4\u00b0C or +6\u00b0C<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Recommendation:<\/strong> Even if it&#039;s hot on the shore, 20 meters without <strong>7 mm suit<\/strong> and mandatory <strong>hoods<\/strong> Rapid cooling will occur. At this depth, we at Phoca recommend using a suit with an integrated hood or a very dense separate hood to prevent the \u201ccold water collar\u201d effect.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Cimdi_un_manevretspeja\"><\/span>Gloves and maneuverability<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Fingers freeze faster at depth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Optimal choice:<\/strong> 20 meters would be ideal <strong>5 mm mittens<\/strong> with a double cuff. If you plan to stay there for more than 20-30 minutes, consider <strong>7 mm three-finger gloves<\/strong>This is essential so that you can still safely operate your equipment (inflate your life jacket, control your computer).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Eksperta_kontrolsaraksts_20m_nirienam\"><\/span>Expert checklist for a 20m dive:<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Costume:<\/strong> 7 mm (preferably with internal thermal coating).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Downward:<\/strong> A 2-3 mm neoprene vest under the base layer will provide additional 30% warmth to the core (torso).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Boots:<\/strong> At least 5 mm with a hard sole, because the feet move the least and cool down first.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Gatis (Phoca):<\/strong> <em>\u201cRemember, 20 meters is where the fun ends and the serious diving begins.
